Background

The information technology and information technology enabled service industry in Pakistan comprises of around 1500 companies who employ 120,000 individuals. The sector’s reported exports for 2015 stood at USD 523 million and is estimated to contribute 1.7% to the national GDP. Spread across Pakistan the industry is predominately composed of SMEs and with few barriers to entry is a true catalyst for entrepreneurship. The Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (P@SHA) is the trade body representing this sector which holds tremendous economic contribution potential, provided the right mix of policy and supportive business environment.

The Digital Pakistan 2020 Conference aims to discuss challenges & opportunities with all the stakeholders for the sector to achieve its 2020 export target of USD 5 billion and creation of 300,000 new jobs. The conference will share importance of IT industry for future of Pakistan by highlighting inspirational success stories of young entrepreneurs and the impact IT industry has already created in lives of Pakistanis. The conference is expected to be the biggest technology event of the country attracting more than 700 national & international participants.

Conference Format

The Digital Pakistan 2020 Conference will begin with an inaugural session, followed by plenary discussions among government officials, eminent experts and industry representatives. The goal of the discussions is to enable participants to assess the options from a policy as well as a practical and operational perspective, and to discuss proposals which could help the Digital Pakistan 2020 objectives and the Conference outcome.

A comprehensive report is being compiled with input of hundreds of top IT companies’ CEOs which will be presented in the conference highlighting key issues, opportunities and case studies along with overview of each sub-sector within IT & ITES.

Goals & Objectives

The  Digital Pakistan 2020 Conference will be the biggest technology conference of Pakistan with more than 700 in attendance including top IT companies, investors, policymakers, researchers, professionals, representatives of intergovernmental organizations, NGOs,  civil  society  organizations,  bilateral  and  multilateral donor organisations, economic departments of consulates & embassies.

The conference aims to synergise Pakistan Vision 2025 and the IT & ITES aspirations, ensuring sustainable Development of the IT & ITES Industry till 2020, Creation of 300 thousand new employment opportunities in IT & ITES and Achieving export target of USD 5 billion till 2020

 

Expected Outcomes

The Digital Pakistan 2020 Conference is expected to provide the next 5 years roadmap for the IT & ITES industry. The contribution this sector will make to the greater national aspirations and how decisive government intervention of bringing policy reforms and creation of a supportive business environment will assist the industry in reaching USD 5 billion export mark by 2020.
