Pakistan IT holds its Oscar Night

Having matured over the past 7 years, the P@SHA ICT Awards has become recognized as the flagship ICT sector industry event in Pakistan. Branded as the technology industry’s star-studded Oscar Night , the Awards event took place at the Royal Palm Golf & Country Club in Lahore on the evening of 8th October 2010 and showcased the best Software and Service applications in 30 different categories.

Winners in the product categories will accompany the P@SHA delegation to the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from October 12 – 16, 2010.

Amongst the winners were those involved in developing Financial, e-Government, Communications, E-Inclusion & E-Community, Tools & Infrastructure, Security, Industrial,New Media & Entertainment, Mobile Games, E-Learning and Animation Applications as well as intensely heavily researched Research & Development Applications.

Awards were also given out to the best Startup Companies and for innovative Tertiary Student Projects. The Best CIO in the Private and Public sectors were also recognized.

Speaking at the event, the President of the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (P@SHA), Jehan Ara, said that each year the entries are exciting, innovative and cutting edge showing the depth of the industry and its capabilities.

This year over 120+ entries were received in the 30 categories and judges, who are seasoned professionals from within the IT sector, were totally blown away by some of the nominated software products. There is a lot of creative work being done within the technology industry that goes unrecognized, said Jehan Ara. The P@SHA ICT Awards, she said, are aimed at discovering and highlighting the brilliant innovation taking place and showcasing them to the world through participation at local and regional events.

Amongst the attendees at the event were a diverse group of corporate and IT professionals and students as well as government and university representatives from Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Karachi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Peshawar. Volunteers at the Awards event included young university kids from 10 different universities.

The idea behind the new P@SHA ICT Awards trophy is to “Reach out for the stars” and that is what the Pakistan IT business community appears to be doing very well despite all the challenges that it faces..

Sponsors for this year’s event included the who’s who of the technology sector – Infotech, Microsoft, wi-tribe, PSEB, IBM, Intel, Mixit, Dell, Oracle, Google and CIO Pakistan.

Teams from NUCES-FAST Lahore, UCP and Sofizar performed musical numbers to entertain the crowd. Young talented women professionals also sang a couple of songs that enthralled the audience.
