PASHA would like to announce it’s partnership with the WSP/World Bank and PITB and is pleased to inform members that Pakistan will be one of the 14 countries to organize a “Water and Sanitation Hackathon” on December 1-2, 2012. This global event is being organized jointly by Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) of the World Bank with PITB @ Arfa Karim Software Technology Park (ASTP) in Lahore. Apart from Federal and provincial governments academia and private sector is also involved in various capacities to make it a productive event.

This event provides an opportunity to promote the use of mobile technology as a tool in the water and sanitation sector. Sanitation Hackathon will be an immense marathon of brainstorming and programming where talented software developers will develop innovative technological solutions (mobile applications and software programs) to identified water and sanitation challenges. Programmers, software engineers and data specialists would then team up to put their technical skills to work mashing up data, building on open source technology platforms and developing apps that respond to those challenges, which the sanitation sector can put to use on the ground to aid the communities that need them. For more details, please visit http://www.facebook.com/watersanitationhackpk/events
The winner of the application will be judged by a panel of renowned experts – will be given a contract by the World Bank to implement the mobile application in the water and sanitation utility. The winners will also compete to represent Pakistan in a global application development competition in Spain and shall be traveling to Washington in February 2013 for a global water and Sanitation event.
